A transport chair is the one somebody else pushes; a manual wheelchair is the one you propel yourself. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake in this category.
Before you choose a wheelchair
- Rear wheel size tells you who is driving. Big rear wheels (20–24″) mean the person seated can propel themselves. Small wheels all round mean someone else pushes.
- Measure the seat, not the person. Seat width should be hip width plus about two inches — too wide is as bad as too narrow, because the arms lose their support.
- Weight matters at the car, not in the house. If it goes in a trunk, every pound is one you lift twice a trip.

Vive Health, a manufacturer we partner with, makes its own transport chairs and wheelchairs and sells them from its own store. Buying direct means one maker handles the order, the shipping and any question afterwards. Prices there are set by Vive, not by us.
